Evans resigns as Etisalat CEO

Steven Evans has resigned as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian subsidiary of Emirates Telecommunications Corporation operating as Etisalat in the country.

Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that Evans resigned last month and returned home to the United Kingdom after leading the company for most of its five years in existence.

The Chief Commercial Officer, Matthew Willsher, was appointed as acting CEO in his place, the spokesperson for Etisalat Nigeria, Ms. Chineze Amanfo, was quoted as saying this by telephone on Wednesday.

Willsher did not immediately respond to an e-mailed request for comments and Evans’ Etisalat e-mail bounced back, according to Bloomberg.

Abu Dhabi-based parent Etisalat didn’t immediately respond to calls and e-mails seeking comments.

Evans was appointed in December 2008, two months after Etisalat began full commercial operations in Nigeria, according to the company’s website.

Prior to that, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the London-based BT Group Plc (BT/A)’s mobile unit.

Etisalat is the fourth largest mobile phone operator in Nigeria.

The company had 15.3 million subscribers as of June 2013, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission.

Dennis Okike is the 10th Ultimate champion! ( Gulder Ultimate Search)

The most anticipated answer to who will be the ultimate Champion  has been provided for fans of the Gulder Ultimate Search (GUS)  reality TV show  as Dennis Okike emerge the winner of GUS season 10.

Dennis Okike has emerged the 10th  Ultimate Champion. He outsmarted Dr.Edmund Umeabuani and Ifunanya Onike in the waters of Usaka River, Akwa-Ibom State where the final battle among the warriors fervently seeking for the 10th symbol took place.  On the final day of the search, the warriors got a message from the Council of Elders ordering them to pack their bags and make their ways to where they draw water. Chidi awaited them and gave them the next set of instructions.

*GUS Winner

The final task was to search for the 10th Symbol. To do that, each of them would make use of a clue which would take them to two different locations to retrieve two pieces of the map that would lead to where the 10th Symbol was buried. Another clue at their first locations would direct them to the next location.

It was a race against time and the last man to the next location was evicted. Edmund and Ifunanya’s first clue led them to the Place of the Talking Drum to retrieve the first map piece; while Bobby and Dennis went to the Mud Field. Subsequently, Bobby and Dennis headed to the Place of the Talking Drum for their second piece while Edmund and Ifunanya raced to the Mud

Field. Edmund returned first, followed by Ifunanya. Dennis edged Bobby out of the quest when he beat him to the finish line. Bobby was instantly evicted.

With their maps pieced together, the remaining warriors had all they needed to proceed to find the Sceptre. On their maps three spots were marked ‘X’ as possible places the 10th Symbol was buried. Ifunanya was in the lead, having figured out the direction first. However her first attempt at crossing the river with the aid of a rope saw her falling into the water while Edmund and Dennis moved on.

Edmund arrived first and headed straight to one of the spots marked on the map and began his search. Dennis joined shortly. Ifunanya had barely stepped in the river when Dennis raised what turned out to be a false alarm. All he had was a piece of debris laying under the river. The protracted search had the warriors glancing at their maps intermittently as Dennis kept digging up dirt after dirt from the river.
After many futile efforts Dennis eventually dug up the Sceptre from under a slant palm tree in the river and thereby ended the long search for the 10th  symbol. He was instantly inducted into the order of Heroes as the 10th  Ultimate Man by Chidi Mokeme, the Anchor-man.

For his feat, Dennis will win N10 million and a brand new Mitsubishi Pajero 3.0L GLS AT( full Option) courtesy of CFAO Motors Nigeria, the official automotive partners of Gulder Ultimate Search 10. For emerging the last female contestant standing, Ifunanya is already guaranteed N1 million in addition to her prize money.

In the same vein, Kalu Kalu, a final year student of Industrial Mathematics in the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, has emerged as the first winner of the first ever fans edition of Gulder Ultimate Search. The fans edition of Gulder Ultimate Search was hosted by Bob Manuel Udokwu. Gulder gave fans and viewers of the show a chance to compete in Nigeria’s first 100 per cent local content reality TV show from the comfort of their homes.

Actress Liz Anjorin Explains Why She Dumped Christianity For Islam

Popular actress Liz Anjorin surprised many recently when photos of her on Muslim Pilgrimage to Mecca surfaced online. She later announced that she was changing her religion from Christianity to Islam. She also dropped the name Elizabeth and announced that she would like to be addressed as Aisha, in light with her new religion. Liz has finally opened up about why she made the decision..

Liz tells City People

“It happened in a miraculous way which I have been expecting for long, not that I woke up yesterday and decided to change my religion. By birth, I was half Muslim and half Christian.

My father was Christian while my mum was Muslim. Growing up I went to church because of my father. I didn’t have a choice at the time but I have always had interest in Islam so immediately my father died I switched over to my mum’s religion. It is a religion I love so much. Also Aisha is now my official name though Liz is still my name and I will continue to use the name to do movies.

Ex Beauty Queen Mina reveals how her cousin snatched her boyfriend and got pregnant

Mina Horsefall, Ex-beautiful queen  has revealed that her cousin snatched her boyfriend and got pregnant for him. The actress said she is still yet to get over the situation.

“My first cousin and my ex betrayed me. The whole story is complicated. She dated my boyfriend and married him. I had no idea what was going on until they were about to get married because she was pregnant for him. I did not introduce him to her. She knew him. He was my Uncle’s best man and we were in the bridal train. He met us together and went after me.

“We had a relationship for some years, two years at a stretch, then it became off and on and all those times she knew. She was even engaged to someone else at the time. Unknown to me she ‘worked’ her NYSC down to Lagos to have my boyfriend. She was living with him and it didn’t make any sense to me. Until later on, I found out they were getting married.

“What pained me most and the worst part of it was when I got to hear about it and confronted him, he said he can never do anything with my sister. And there you are getting her pregnant and marrying her. It got all messed up. This happened in September 2012. I haven’t forgiven them. I don’t think I ever will”

I think Mina is not displaying a mark of a good spirit, nurturing grudges against them

Man stabs mistress to death after she tells him she has HIV

A 37-year-old man who confessed to killing his mistress because she had HIV may have planned the attack, a court heard on Tuesday.

Larry Dunn stabbed Cicely Lee Bolden, 28, twice in the neck and left her to bleed to death in her southeast Oak Cliff, Dallas, apartment last September after she told him she was infected.

Dunn initially told police he stabbed Bolden with a kitchen knife moments after they had unprotected s*x and Bolden revealed her illness.

However new evidence presented at trial suggests the attack may not have been spontaneous.

Dallas Observer reported Bolden had told Dunn of her diagnosis a week before he killed her.

The court heard Dunn, believing he was infected and fearing he gave his wife HIV, went to his hairdresser girlfriend’s house seeking revenge.

They had unprotected s*x one last time.

Then, while Bolden lay in bed, Dunn went to the kitchen, grabbed a steak knife, got back into bed and plunged the blade into Bolden’s neck, killing her.

‘In my mind, I’m already dead,’ Dunn told police at the time. ‘She killed me, so I killed her.’

Dunn faces up to life in prison if convicted.

His attorney, however, is trying to prove he acted with ‘sudden passion’, which carries a 20-year sentence.

More than a year after the couple had s*x, Dunn still hasn’t been diagnosed with HIV. His lawyers say he is still undergoing tests.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most people develop a detectable amount of HIV antibodies between two to eight weeks of exposure.

Bolden’s body, which was naked from the waist down, was found by her son, seven, and daughter, eight, in their apartment.

The children ran out of the unit crying and screaming ‘my mama, my mama’, testified neighbor Latoya Arnett, who had called 911. The children now live separately with relatives.

Dunn initially denied killing Bolden, though he admitted that the two had s*x that day. He also denied knowing that Bolden was HIV positive when Dallas police Detective Brian Tabor told him.

In a second interview, Dunn admitted what he had done, saying: ‘I was enraged, man…She knew she had HIV.’

He said Bolden didn’t struggle because ‘she wasn’t very strong.’

He also revealed he burned his clothes afterwards and dumped the knife in the garbage at a waffle house. Police later recovered the weapon.

‘I wanted to make her pay,’ Dunn said in the recorded interview, according to Dallas News. ‘Killing her wasn’t on the menu. That’s just how it ended up.’

The father of Cicely’s son, Jeff Busby, said that Bolden had contracted HIV within the last couple of years.

Speaking about Dunn, he said: ‘I hope he rots in prison. She [Bolden] did not deserve this.’

Stuffed teddy bear toys and candles were left outside Bolden’s boarded-up apartment in Highland Village Drive after the grisly murder.

Photo: Woman caught with dead day old baby in sack in Lagos

A 40-year old widow named Mujidat was caught yesterday Wednesday October 30th with a dead day old baby she hid inside a sack around her residence at at the Iba area of Lagos, PM News reports.

It was gathered that a member of the community, High Chief Babatunde Balogun caught the mother of seven when she was  trying to dispose the baby at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday. When questioned on the content of the sack, she claimed she was coming from the market where she bought some household items.

However, on a closer look, Balogun discovered that the sack contained a dead day old baby the woman allegedly had just delivered. He then called the attention of the other residents. Neighbours told P.M News that after Mujidat’s husband known as Baba Mushin died about three years ago, they have seen men visiting her residence, the house built by her late husband.

When asked if she planned to throw away the baby because of an alleged paternity mess, she denied, claiming  that a welder turned block maker near her residence was responsible for the pregnancy that resulted in the birth of the dead baby she was caught with.

She claimed she took delivery of the baby by herself because she found it easy and therefore did not go to any hospital or sought anybody’s  help.

At about 9 p.m yesterday when P.M.NEWS visited the area, residents of the area were still milling around the residence of the woman.

Officials of the Community Development Association, CDA, in the area later accompanied the woman and her sack of baby to the Isheri-Oshun Police Division where the matter was reported. At the time of this report, the woman was still being interrogated.

Transcript from Premium Times

11:40
The minister has finally arrived at the venue of the hearing, 100 minutes after the hearing was scheduled to kick off. The lawmakers now setting up to start the hearing.

11:56
Stella Oduah, the aviation minister has just taken her seat before the committee. The hearing begins.

12:00
Hearing committee chairperson, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, gives her opening speech, explaining the delay in starting the hearing and that the committee would be just and fair.
Delay was because venue used for hearing on Wednesday had been taken over for a another hearing on Land racketeering.
“This committee is out to get to the bottom of the matter. But committee is not on ‘witch-hunting’”
12:06
Onyejeocha quips on the tense mood here. “We are not mourning, there is no aeroplane crash; I want to see everyone smiling,” she says. “Feel free and relax.”
The minister is about to be called upon to testify. She takes oath to say “nothing but the truth, the whole truth.”

12:10
Ms. Oduah starts by apologizing for inability to attend previous hearings. She said said her absence was not out of disrespect and thanks the committee for rescheduling her appearance.

12:17
Ms. Oduah says opportunity to appear will allow her give her side of the story. “For the past week, I have been bashed in the media, many have also risen to my defence.”
She said her spokesperson’s admission of the alleged purchase, while right on concerns for her safety, was “inaccurate”.
She goes ahead to say online publications that she compelled NCAA to purchase cars for her were “false and malicious” allegations. “False in its entirety!”
Says online allegations not substantiated but based on “erroneous” comment of her aide.

12:19
“It is not true, cannot be true that NCAA bought bullet proof vehicles for honourable minister of aviation. My understanding is that what NCAA has done is to plan for its vehicle needs for the next three years under the Medium Term Expenditure Framework,” — Stella Oduah
12:34
Oduah: NCAA has real needs for new operational vehicles. Insists armoured cars not meant for her but foreign dignitaries.
“NCAA acted within the ambit of law”.
“Nothing in the stated documents mentioned my name. I did not request for any vehicles. All I did was to approve the purchase, subject to the agency doing the needful(following the law). NCAA followed due process as required by law.”
“The Federal ministry of aviation under my watch has always ensured we act in a prudent manner and under the ambit of the law”-Stella Oduah
12:40
The aviation minister still rendering her opening remarks.
The “First Bank facility to NCAA to the tune of N643 million mere understanding not an obligation” she daid.
“Nigeria’s airspace is now rate among the safest in the world”. She adds that allegation about car purchase is meant to discredit her team and give the impression her effort at reforms is not succeeding.
NCAA has not spent any money not appropriated by the National Assembly. The agency has even saved the nation a cost and further embarrassment that may occur in future.

12:51
The minister’s initial presentation is over. She is now receiving questions from the lawmakers.

13:08
Minister insists NCAA did not exceed its limit or violate the law.
She is reminded by by Jerry Manwe (Taraba state) that the National Assembly rejected armoured cars in the budget which she is defending, the minister buckles: “NCAA will answer that,” she says.
Minister is pressed by Zakari Mohammed(Kwara state) why she exceeded her approval limit, she said her comment on the letter to NCAA was not final but advisory to NCAA to follow the law.
On the said letter, the minister wrote “Approved. Do the needful”.
Brief game on semantics here. Minister says “Do the needful” could mean anything”. But the lawmakers are not having that. NCAA is called to explain the “needful” it did. And the NCAA director general shirks to the former acting DG who was in charge then.

13:25
Blame briefly leaves the minister to officials of NCAA over “do the needful” directive. For a moment, lawmakers appear to agree with the minister the all-encompassing comment exonerates her. The former acting DG of NCAA is tackled for even initiating a memo to Odua for a purchase out of budget, and beyond approved limit.

13:47
Jerry Manwe (Member) to minister: If the armoured cars were not for you as you claimed, who is using them now?
Former acting DG answers for minister: Any one can use any car in the pool
Manwe: Do you mean a cleaner can use those kind of cars?
Former DG: Anybody can use; but those kind of cars are for VIP movement, including foreign dignitaries, including the minister, and even you honourable member!
Manwe; Thank you. But the law of the country does not allow me to use those cars.

14:14
Attention has left the minister for more than half an hour. Lawmakers again tackle Coscharis over the disparity in chassis numbers of the cars.
A frustrated Chief Executive of Coscharis, Cosmas Maduka, makes it clear his company has nothing to hide as the committee would think. “We are not doing monkey business here,” he asserted. Mr Maduka was asked to withdraw the comment and he promptly complied.

14:22
Reps wrapping the hearing. Chairperson Onyejeocha said despite the testimonies from those invited since last week, the committee has received sufficient documents that will inform its report. “We have given everyone fair hearing,” she said.
“We assure everyone and all Nigerians we will do justice”.

14:25
Hearing Ends. Thanks for following our updates. Do stick around our site for the rest of the day as we will put the proceeding in their correct perspective for you.

Peeshawn(Skuki) in love with Chidinma(Kedike)

Chidinma, get in here, there’s someone who is in love with you and wants the world to know it. Peeshawn, one half of singing sensation Skuki (pictured above in white shirt) confessed his love for the pretty Kedike singer in an interview with Encomium mag. Excerpts from the interview below…

But, there are some you also admire that you don’t mind spending the rest of your life with?

Yes, of course! Nigeria is blessed with pretty babes. If you study me well, you will observe that I am a very romantic guy, at the same time, I am very emotional. I definitely have someone that I love so much.
In the industry or out of the industry?
(Pause for seconds) In the industry, I have someone I really love so much.

Who is the lucky lady?

(Pauses again) Chidinma. She’s really attractive. I really love her so much, but we’ve not really had time to chat closely, except when we met at backstage during shows. I hope she will read this, for her to know that Peeshaun of Skuki loves her.
But Chidinma doesn’t read newspapers. She told us in an interview recently?
I am sure her friends, family will read it. They will definitely tell her I said so. I will love to marry her.

Are you serious?
Yes, of course!

What do you really like about Chidinma?
First, I love her music. I love her style. I love her composure. Apart from that, what I love in a woman is a beautiful face and I think Chidinma has 10/10 of that. The low cut on her head is making her look more beautiful anytime I see her performing or watch her video.

Are you directly or indirectly proposing to her?
I don’t want to talk about that now. Next question, please.

Nollywood at 20 and Nigeria’s entertainment industry

Congratulations to all Nigerian thespians, playwrights, producers, directors, costumiers, scriptwriters, musicians, set-designers, location managers, dancers, choreographers, cameramen and women, photographers, editors, marketers, financiers and all other professionals who are involved in film-making in the country.  From November 2 – 27, 2013, Nigeria’s movie industry, better known as Nollywood, is set to celebrate its two decades of existence with pomp. Lots of interesting activities have been lined up to mark the twentieth anniversary celebrations. These include a grand awards night, a charity novelty football match, special master class sessions for practitioners, coaching clinics for Nigerian youths and upcoming motion picture practitioners, special charity-support activities, among others.

I appreciate the artistry, resilience, and conscientiousness of Nollywood practitioners. From nothing, they have made the Nigerian film industry a global brand so much so that in 20 years, Nollywood is rated third best world over coming after the United States of America’s Hollywood and India’s Bollywood. I had a taste of the popularity of Nigeria’s films and artistes in Ghana in 2008 when I was a short term international election observer with The Carter Centre.   At the Bekwai constituency in the Kumasi Region where I observed the December 28, presidential run-off, it was a pleasant surprise as some of the poll officials, having noticed that I am from Nigeria, warmed up to me and told me that they love our actors and actresses. Names of screen divas such as Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Genevive Nnaji, Ini Edo and actors such as Nkem Owoh (Osuofia), Desmond Elliot and Ramsey Nouah were mentioned.

There is no gainsaying the fact that Nigeria movie professionals have contributed immensely to national development. Apart from offering employment to several thousands of people along the value chain, Nollywood has helped to foster national unity as people from different ethnic, religious and cultural background work together in making good films for our entertainment. The country’s film industry has also helped to project and promote Nigerian cultures and values. Nigerian names, food, attires, dance, tourist centres, architectural designs, music, and general lifestyles have been locally and internationally promoted via our film industry. The Nigerian movie industry has also done a lot of image laundry for the country. Our films, movies and artistes have won numerous prestigious national and international awards among which is the Africa Movie Academy Awards. Our actors and actresses have also had the opportunity to showcase their talents in other countries in Europe, America and Africa. Our films have provided an unrivalled means of relaxation. Films with comedy slants have helped to reduce stress by offering comic reliefs.

Nigerian actors and actresses have also been able to demonstrate their resourcefulness and versatility by their ability to play multiple roles in the industry. Some are artistes, masters of ceremonies, directors and producers all rolled into one. Some such as Elliot, Owoh, Jalade-Ekeinde, Tonto Dike, Segun Arinze, the late Hubert Ogunde and a host of others have also proved that they are equally good musicians.

Even though stage plays as well as television and radio dramas predate the advent of the movie industry, it is sad that stage plays have been relegated to the background. I used to go to the University of Ibadan Theatre Arts Hall, Cultural Centre at Mokola and Obisesan Hall  in Dugbe,  Ibadan to watch stage plays by the UNIBADAN Performing Company where the likes of Becky Musa, the late Sam Loco Efe and Clarion Chukwura used to hold sway. Stage plays are no longer fashionable because it is not as financially rewarding to the artistes as featuring in movies. Even when the likes of Chief Eddie Ugbomah, Adeyemi Afolayan (Ade Love), Moses Olaiya (Baba Sala), and the late Ogunde pioneered filmmaking in the early 80s, we had to go to cinemas to watch them. It was thereafter that home videos came and people could then purchase the VHS tape and later Compact Discs to watch. The advent of home videos coupled with the high level of insecurity has made the cinema culture to also go comatose.

Among the challenges facing Nigeria’s film industry are inadequate funding as many of the filmmakers have to depend on private individuals to finance their projects. These financiers dictate both the storyline as well as the artistes to feature; piracy (illegal or unauthorised duplication and sales of intellectual properties e.g. films. A handful of powerful individuals at the Alaba International Market in Lagos are notorious for this); lack of an umbrella structure for the industry; inadequate training  and exposure of filmmakers on how to use modern technology to perfect their acts;  advent of cable or satellite television stations which take delight in showing films produced thereby making it unnecessary for individuals to buy personal copies; substandard production aftermath of low budget; market glut as a result of too many releases at the same time; weak legal framework and enforcement by the regulators (in spite of the establishment of the National Film and Video Censors Board, some films whose contents are unethical, immoral, or culturally insensitive are found in the market when they ought to be banned.

Like the film industry, the wider entertainment industry in the country follows the same narrative.  Nigerian musicians have done the country proud both locally and internationally. Nigeria’s brand of music such as Afrobeat, Highlife, Reggae, Rap, Hip-Hop (Nigerian version) and traditional genres such as Juju, Fuji,  Apala, Awurebe, Were, Waka, Sakara, Dundun and Sekere, Bolojo, Ewi, all have international appeal with many of the exponents travelling abroad to perform at international music festivals as well as for Nigerians in the Diaspora.

Some Nigerian musicians such as Femi Anikulapo Kuti and King Sunny Ade have also been nominated for Grammy, the most influential music award in the world, though they did not win. However, Nigerian musicians in the Diaspora such as Sade Adu and Seal have won the Grammies. About seven Nigerian musicians are among the richest top 10 in Africa in the Channel O and Forbes list recently released for 2013. There are now many talent hunt shows supported by the private sector such as the MTN Project Fame, Nigerian Idol, Glo X Factor, Multina Dancehall, etc. These are no mean achievements.  The comedy sub-set of Nigeria’s entertainment industry has also grown big with many of our comedians and comediennes now organising shows both within and outside Nigeria as well as running personal television comedy shows.  It is heartwarming that Nigerian artistes have been found worthy by the Nigerian telecommunication industry as brand ambassadors.

As with the filmmakers, Nigerian musicians and comedians face similar challenges such as their intellectual properties being pirated or used without licence, sub-standard production, funding constraint, and lack of self-censorship. Some of Nigerian artistes are fond of lewd songs and jokes. Women particularly are greatly mistreated both in their songs and promotional videos. Some of our comedians and comediennes promote same stereotypes. For instance, Warri, a prominent town in Delta State usually has its inhabitants projected as lawless, careless and uncouth people. This is wrong.

About the funding challenge faced by the entertainment industry, the Federal Government has stepped in to offer a lifeline to the artistes. In 2011, President Goodluck Jonathan promised a $200m soft loan to the filmmakers. Various bureaucratic bottlenecks however hampered the disbursement of the bail-out. At a dinner held with top Nollywood practitioners in Lagos to celebrate Nollywood’s 20th anniversary on March 2, 2013, President Goodluck Jonathan announced a N3bn grant to support the motion picture industry. He also launched a programme known as “Project Nollywood,” which he said would help to support the key components of the industry’s value chain through a dedicated grant. At the same event, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, also endowed the “Goodluck Jonathan Prize for Best Producer, Actor and Actresses”, worth N50m. It remains to be seen if these lifelines will be accessible and put to good use by the theatre practitioners. The different unions in the industry also need to float an endowment fund to assist some of their members facing health challenges. However, 20 hearty cheers to Nollywood, do keep the flag flying.

DJ apprehended with 52 wraps of cocaine

Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, have apprehended a 36-year-old Disc Jockey with powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine weighing 855 grammes.

In a statement on Tuesday by the NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, the suspect, Iwunze Magnus, with a South African passport number 460709224, was said to have boarded an Iberia flight from Costa Rica enroute Madrid.

He was found to have ingested 52 wraps of cocaine at the arrival hall of the airport, three of which he had excreted on the plane during the flight.

NDLEA Airport Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar confirmed the arrest.

He said, “Three wraps of substances weighing 190 grammes that tested positive for cocaine, were, during a routine search, found in Magnus’s pockets. He had excreted them during the flight from Costa Rica.

“He also tested positive for drug ingestion and while under observation, Magnus excreted 49 wraps that also tested positive for cocaine. In all, he had 52 wraps weighing 855 grammes of cocaine.”

Magnus said, “I am a disc jockey and I have my music studio in Johannesburg, where I have lived with my wife and kid since 1997.

“I had wanted to settle the debts I incurred during the burial of my late brother. In an attempt to pay the balance of N300,000, I fell into the hands of drug traffickers who lured me into the trade. They were to pay me $2,500, if I had succeeded.” Magnus is a native of Ibitolu in Imo State.

Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade,  said, “I understand the suspect had a South African passport. I have ordered a thorough investigation into the case. I also wish to appeal to members of the public to resist any attempt to smuggle and abuse drugs. Magnus will be charged to court at the conclusion of our investigation.”

HORROR: Little Baby Girl Is Forced To Live Inside Parents’ Car Boot For Almost 120 Weeks ! (SeePhotos)

The little girl’s parents being escorted into court by police

In a case that has appalled France and investigators say “defies the imagination”, a baby girl was forced to live hidden in the boot of her parents’ car for almost two years!

The tiny baby was found naked and feverish by mechanics who were carrying out repairs on the family’s Peugeot 307 car.
The mechanics were alerted to the child’s presence after hearing “strange noises that sounded like moans” coming from the rear of the vehicle.

The mother, 45, a Portuguese woman known only as Rose-Marie, claimed that the noise came from “toys”.
But the men insisted on opening the boot and were horrified to discover a small, dehydrated and apparently feverish child lying naked in its own excrement.

The mechanic who found the girl, Guillaume Iguacel, said today he was still in shock from the discovery. That the girl’s mother appeared to have little concern for her daughter.
He said:

I’m still having trouble sleeping, it was a horrifying sight, seeing this little girl in her own excrement, not able to hold up her head, white as a sheet.
We were deeply shocked because she (the girl’s mother) didn’t find this abnormal. We told her to remove the little girl (from the boot) and give her something to drink right away.

Paramedics were called and the little child was immediately taken to hospital.

The mother told investigators that she had kept the child’s existence from her husband, an unemployed builder, also Portuguese, who police were unable to question straight away given his drunken state.
The mother said she gave birth alone then hid the baby in the boot. It has no birth certificate and apparently no name.

“It appears the child had been hidden from her birth, and even worse is seriously retarded,” said Jean-Pierre Laffite, the prosecutor in nearby Brive-La-Gaillarde.
He said the girl’s height, weight and mental development didn’t conform to her age, estimated to be between 15 and 23 months. She cannot speak a word.

“It’s a situation that defies the imagination,” he added.

The little child’s parents have been charged with child abuse and neglect, and social services have taken into care their three other children – a four-year-old girl and two boys aged nine and 10.

The couple, who remain under strict judicial supervision, face a maximum ten-year prison terms if convicted.

As to the motive for hiding the baby, a judicial source said: “(The mother) provided none. That remains the big mystery.”
